Giclée
What is a Gicléeprint?
The giclée printing technique has been developed specifically
to fulfil the demands
of fine art collectors and connaisseurs for limited edition, museum
quality art
reproductions. As such it has established its place amongst other
reproduction
techniques such as etching, lithography and screen printing. Gicléeprinting
is not
replacing these other forms of graphic art, it is merely a modern
addition to the
already existing, more traditional printing techniques. Although
not yet widely known, many art lovers as well as museums have started
collecting works of art printed with the glicée printing
technique.
The walls of The Louvre
The giclée process is a high tech method of printing which
can generate prints of
digital images of UNRIVALED quality. Sheets are printed one at a
time, and images
printed at the highest settings can require more than one hour each.
Again, as in traditional printmaking and photography, extensive
handwork is required to produce the final print. This time consuming,
often
tedious proofing ensures that the final print is true to the artist’s
intent. Gliclée
prints are now widely shown and distributed from galleries and
art studios to the walls of the Louvre.
